Bedfordshire Silentflight was formed in 1992 to cater for the growing interest in silent flight in the Bedford and surrounding areas. There are now around 45 members ranging in age from 11 to 70+ with varying levels of expertise in flat field gliding and electric powered aircraft. The club has the use of 3 fields in and around Bedford enabling weekend flying to take place throughout the year with the addition of midweek evening flying during the summer.
The club also organises a calendar of events. In the winter months, i.e. September to April, there is a programme of indoor activities including speakers and demonstrations. During the summer months a programme of light hearted competitions take place twice a month. All events and activities are advertised in the club's regularly published newsletter.
We have a range of equipment available for use by members including bungee glider launchers and an electric winch. There are club aircraft available enabling anyone interested in the sport to try their hand under supervision to see whether it appeals to them before making any commitment.
There are plenty of experienced members who are happy to offer help and instruction to novices and newcomers all of whom will be made very welcome. On the other hand, if you are already an expert flier, there is a growing band of competition fliers within the club.
The club is affiliated to the BMFA (British Model Flying Association) and all members are required to be insured with them. This can all be arranged by the club if required. Our membership fees are extremely reasonable. Why not come and join us?
